“The drums are drumming; I hear the bagpipes coming…”
And they are! The Winchester Pipes and Drums Band will be returning to the Kernstown Battlefield on Saturday Sept. 26 from 6:00 until 7:30pm. Join us as we honor the Scottish heritage of the original settlers of this farm/battlefield, William and Barbara Hoge.
The “pipes and drums” evoke so many emotions, even to “non-Scotts”, as the listeners will sense the history, pageantry, national pride, military drill and, indeed, the joys and sorrows of the Scottish people over the centuries. During breaks in the performance there will be opportunities to mingle and talk with the pipers and drummers.
This KBA fundraising evening is a truly unique opportunity to enjoy the rousing and then melancholy music of the Winchester Pipes and Drums Band while enjoying a complimentary glass of wine provided by our partner, the local Valerie Hill Winery of Stephens City and sampling Scottish shortbreads.
Cost is only $59 per person to enjoy a pipes evening and to help support the preservation of the Kernstown Battlefield.
The event will be held on the lawn in front of the Artillery Building; we invite you to bring your own lawn chair. (In case of rain, the event will move inside the building.) If you wish, arrive early --- 5:00 to 6:00pm --- to mingle with other history and pipes-lovers and to tour the Visitor Center and artillery displays.
